The Process of Embalming:
Step 2: One of the embalmers make a cut in the left side of the body where they remove many of the internal organs. They remove these because those organs are the first part of the body to decompose. The liver, lungs, stomach, and intestines are then washed and packed in natron. Natron dries the organs that have been taken out. The heart is not taken out of the body because Egyptians felt that the person would need it in the afterlife.
